Opening God's Word and Praying Psalm 25:5

Psalm 25:5 Lead me in Your Truth and teach me.

Charles Spurgeon said, "Turn to the Bible, for there is in it the very Word you need."

The goal for the devotional thoughts page is for us to open God’s Word, read what it says, teach, and apply what it says.

PSALM 50:10-12  For every beast of the forest is Mine, The cattle on a thousand hills.  I know every bird of the mountains, and everything that moves in the field is Mine.  If I were hungry, I would not tell you, For the world is Mine, as well as its fullness.

I heard this story from a sermon from H.B. Charles… “Years ago, a young girl’s parents died, and she gave given to a family to serve them.  She worked hard and served them well.  One day, the family was going to go to the beach for the day and gave the young girl a list of chores to do.  It was a lovely day and before she got started, she went outside to enjoy the fresh air and the warmth of the sun.  There was not a cloud in the sky, so she laid down in the grass and closed her eyes to enjoy the moment.  A few minutes later, a shadow covered her face.  Before she opened her eyes, she prayed that the family had not come home early.  The shadow was the daughter of a rich family that lived on the hilltop.  She said to the girl lying on the ground, “Do you know who I am?”  Yes, said the young lady as she sat up.  “My daddy owns that huge mansion on the hill over there.  See the biggest yacht out on the water, that is my daddy’s too.  See my beautiful dress and my shiny shoes, my daddy got this for me and I have a dozen more of these in my bedroom.”  The rich girl went on and on.

The young girl couldn’t take it anymore and stood up and said my daddy is rich too.  The rich girl looked at the young girl in shock.  Yes, said the young girl.  See that mountain that that mansion is on?  That belongs to my daddy.  Do you see that water out there, that belongs to my daddy?  My father is rich in houses and lands, and He holds the wealth of this world in His hands.

The rich girl looks at the young girl (dirty dress and holes in her shoes) and says, “If your daddy is so rich, why are you dressed like that?  The young girl looks at the rich girl and says, excuse my appearance, but I’m not home yet.   When I get home, my daddy has a new robe and new shoes waiting on me.”

When I think of the story, I am reminded and encouraged that we are not home yet.  This world will despise and hate us because we do not look like them.  We are called to be a light in this dark world Matthew 5:16We do not fit into this world!

1 Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

Isaiah 43:1 But now, thus says Yahweh, your Creator, O Jacob, And He who formed you, O Israel, “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are Mine!

John 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.

Be encouraged, we are not home yet!  No matter what is going on in your life God is in control.  Do you trust Him completely?

1 Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

My thoughts… we are not home yet but we (as believers) are called to follow Jesus with everything we have.  We are to trust Him, be in His Word (the Bible), feed the sheep, and serve those around us until we are called home.  Our eyes should be on that day, I am ready but until then Glorify God in all you do!
